You can mix any woods to create designs on the floor. Contrasting woods can be used to create custom inlays. I can create any custom design or inlay arrangement you can think of. Upon observing the area you'd like hardwood flooring installed in, I can also suggest and help you to create unique designs which will accentuate your room.
Border feature strip inlays can be used to create specialized patterns and embellish the appearance of your hardwood floor. For example, you can have a maple floor with a narrow strip of cherry wood outlining it creating a beautiful contrast of red against the brighter maple wood. Your imagination is the limit with the various possibilities. Multiple strips and multiple wood types can be combined to create a hardwood floor which is one of a kind and absolutely unique to your home or office.
Dovetail joining creates an attractive joint in which the joint taper out at an angle. Dovetailing a border feature strip can create fantastic solid joints.
I will work with any wood type or wood request. I generally advise against purchasing materials without consultation. In many cases I may be able to acquire materials at a lower price. Always call a professional flooring specialist prior to purchasing wood flooring materials.
Staining is an interesting technique which provides hardwood flooring with a specialized appearance. In some cases, people may choose to have their floor stained rather than finished. This staining process can only be applied to raw wood materials. Staining is a fun project because a customer can choose to stain the wood in any color from a completely natural wood appearance to any variation of any color.
Stained floors are also very low maintenance when stained with satin finish which provides a very tasteful and subtle appearance. For this reason I typically recommend satin finish applied in a 3-layer configuration.
There are 3 common types of wood staining finishes:
Wood flooring can be stained strategically to match fabrics, walls, or even furniture made from different woods. When selecting a stain color for your floor, you'll be presented with several color samples to be placed on your floor which will help you to envision the color in your room.
My personal favorite woods when stained are red oak and white oak. Staining seems to accentuate the figuring and character of oak wood particularly well.
